The hospital was one of the local establishments used for recovering soldiers in WW1.

The Hospital served the local community and others for over 100 years.
In its life, seeing the troubles of war, of politics and becoming an important local branch of National health Service.
As a consequence, the League of Friends was established to raise further funds to support work of the Hospital and its Staff, in caring for patients. The Friends were active in providing extra resources to the Hospital, whether updated equipment for the small surgery, organising the community fundraising for the Physiotherapy Unit.

Even prior to closure, the Friends provided funds for up to date Hospital Beds and large Digital Televisions for the Wards.
But the Hospital has closed. The site being used for local social housing and The Friends have had to respond to this change.
With the certainty of closure, the Friends decided to continue, but in a slightly different role, widening its activities.
Today
We now give funds to support not only local NHS activities, including the Community Nurses and Glan Irfon , but also to any local charities, such as Builth Wells Community Support or Voluntary Organisations that help and encourage better health in this area.
Its purpose is to use its funds, given on behalf of local communities, to provide for extra healthcare resources and services in the area covered by the Builth Wells / Llanwrtyd Wells Surgeries.
